Commenting on the awarding of Precandidate Status, Dr. Walter Fitzgerald, founding dean of the School of Pharmacy, said “This approval would not have happened without the work of the outstanding faculty and staff that we have attracted to the School of Pharmacy from all over the nation. With this approval we can now set forth upon our charted path to achieving our mission of educating pharmacy students to be highly qualified pharmacy practitioners who provide care with advocacy and compassion to meet healthcare needs of individuals and diverse populations.” He noted that in addition to education, “the School of Pharmacy will be devoted to service, scholarship, and improving healthcare practice by working with a variety of public and private organizations.”
According to Dean Fitzgerald, the School of Pharmacy faculty and staff are eagerly launching many activities necessary to welcoming the inaugural class to campus. “Much excitement is in the air around South College as we reflect on the milestone that has been achieved. We eagerly await the inaugural class and to the realization of the privilege of serving our students, the profession of pharmacy, the community and our many friends and supporters.”
