Mrs. Ashe is a veteran of 19 years in the Knox County School System. She taught high school science (Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, AP Biology) for 14 years at West High School before moving into administration at the system level first as a Science Specialist for grades K - 8, then to become the system's Science Supervisor (concurrently with her position as South College). Her B.S. and M.S. degrees are both from the University of Tennessee in science education, curriculum and instruction. She completed her Ed.S. at Lincoln Memorial University in administration and supervision.
During her years in the classroom, Mrs. Ashe exposed her students to the world beyond the schoolyard by participating as a teacher at Sea in Prince William Sound, Alaska, where she taught Ecology from shipboard for 4 weeks. She also spent a summer in the Haleakalah Rainforest on Maui, Hawaii doing mark and recapture studies on endangered bird species through an NIH grant for teacher involvement in ongoing scientific research.
Mrs. Ashe demonstrates her commitment to science education at the state level through involvement for over 10 years in the Tennessee Science Teachers Association as a member, district representative, and Secretary to the Executive Board since 2002. She is also a Key leader in the Building a Presence for Science national initiative.
Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Ashe is also a certified Cognitive Coach and authorized Cognitive Coaching(SM) trainer. She conducts foundational seminars annually for school leaders in Knox County and South College faculty.
