Kathy Coley, Ed.S.

Ms. Coley earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Tennessee in social studies education, curriculum and instruction. Her Education Specialist degree is from Lincoln Memorial University where her thesis project studied the effects of performance based learning and assessment on achievement in Advanced Placement U.S.History students.

Having taught in Knox County at both Cedar Bluff Middle School for 10 years and Bearden High School for 11, Ms. Coley continued to grow as a learner herself, becoming certified as a Cognitive Coach(SM). Kathy worked as a Cognitive Coach for a year on a special grant project in Knox County funded by Title II Teacher Enhancement funds before she came to South College to help set up the network of schools that would become placement sites for field experience and student teachers.

In the classroom, Ms. Coley set a high standard for her junior level Advanced Placement U.S. History students, which they met annually. She continues to exhibit high expectations of students at the college level, earning her the South College Teacher of the Year Award for 2006.
