Dr. Mike Miller joined the faculty at South College as a full time faculty member in May 2008. He graduated with a Doctorate in Public Affairs degree from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida in 2008 with a concentration in Criminal Justice. He holds Master and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Public Administration from UCF. He is 1999 graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s (SPI) Administrative Officers’ Course at the University of Louisville. In November 2007, Dr. Miller retired from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando, Florida after 25 years of service, holding the rank of Captain. During his career he worked in Uniformed Patrol, Special Investigations (Narcotics), and Criminal Investigations divisions. He has held leadership and management positions as Patrol Supervisor, Narcotics Unit Sergeant, Special Investigations Division Lieutenant, Uniformed Patrol Sector Commander, and Criminal Investigations Division Major Case Commander. Prior to the Sheriff’s Office Dr. Miller worked 3 years as a Municipal Police Officer for a small agency in Central Florida.Dr. Miller taught Criminal Justice and Sociology courses as an adjunct instructor at the University of Central Florida from 1999-2007. He has also taught Leadership and Motivation for Line Supervision and Organizational Management in Middle Management courses at the Valencia Community College Criminal Justice Institute, Orlando, Florida from 1999–2006. He has lectured extensively on Criminal Justice and Substance Abuse topics to various public forums and community groups. His research interests are Police Management and Leadership, Police Use–of-Force, and the Sociology of Substance Abuse as it relates to Criminal Justice.
