Interlibrary Loans

As a member of TENN-SHARE, the Library can request books or journal articles from other libraries in Tennessee and the Southeast. This loan service is available to current students, faculty and staff at South College.

All interlibrary loan requests must be made through a member of the South College library staff. The borrower is responsible for filling out the forms completely and correctly. Complete information will help staff process requests without delays.

The lending library will set the loan period and may also restrict use of items to use in library only or no photocopying. The borrower is asked to cooperate with these rules.

Number of requests is limited to ten requests per month per individual. Requests will be processed in the order that they are received.

Borrowers will not be charged interlibrary loan fees unless the charge incurred to supply an item exceeds $10.00. When this occurs, the library will notify the borrower, who may choose to pay the amount above $10.00 or cancel the request. Faculty may request an override of fee restrictions to the Executive Vice President if items are needed for teaching.

The borrower will be financially responsible for any loss or damage to borrowed items from the time the item is picked up to the time the item is returned to the library. Borrowers will be financially responsible for any late fees incurred from the lending library if items are not returned to South College library by the indicated due date.

The borrower will be notified by e-mail when your request arrives. Items may be picked up at the Librarian’s desk at either campus.

Most loan requests take a minimum of two weeks to process. The library will not request items that it already owns. Please check the South College catalog before placing your request.

Due to copyright restrictions, no more than five articles from one journal title may be requested in one calendar year.

Use our online forms to request a book or a journal article through South College’s Interlibrary Loan service, or come to the library and fill out a form at the Librarian’s desk.

Library Orientations

Library orientations are given each quarter to students enrolled in College and Career Management, Introduction to Physical Therapist Assistant, Fundamentals of Healthcare, Introduction to Professional Nursing, and Medical Terminology classes. These introductory orientations teach students how to make the best use of the resources available at South College libraries. Class lecture is followed by a hands-on demonstration of both print and electronic resources.

Faculty may request orientations or research sessions tailored for any class not mentioned above by contacting the librarians. Students may request additional individual library tutoring sessions by contacting the librarians.
