Databases and Indexes

The library provides access to the databases and indexes listed here through the student & faculty portals. Indexes include citations - and sometimes abstracts as well - but no full-text. Databases include full-text documents.

Anatomy.tv
This anatomy database includes layered anatomy drawings, dissection slides, physiology information, pathological radiologic images, normal radiologic images, magnetic resonance images, and biomechanical animations. Also includes customizable quizzes.

Bookshelf
This medical database includes full-text books on alternative medicine, spinal cord medicine, surgical treatment, and more. It is freely available for anyone to use anywhere with an Internet connection.

Business Source Elite
This is an EBSCO business database that "provides full text for nearly 1,100 business publications, including full text for nearly 500 peer-reviewed business publications.”

CareNotes™ System
This Thomson Healthcare database provides handouts for medical patients include "complete, easy-to-understand information about all aspects of their care, medications, and health, in English or Spanish."

CINAHL - Cumalitive Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature
This is an EBSCO allied health database that "provides indexing for 2,737 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health....dating back to 1982." It links to some full-text articles from Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition database.

ERIC - Education Resources Information Center
This government education database includes over 107,000 full-text documents from 1993-2004 and 1.1 million citations going back to 1966. It is freely available for anyone to use anywhere with an Internet connection.

Facts on File: Issues & Controversies
This database reviews the history, pros, and cons of current controversial issues in the news.

Find Articles
This general database is freely available for anyone to use anywhere. Includes free access to over ten million articles from business, academic, and general periodicals.

FreeBooks4Doctors!
This medical database includes access to 650 medical books that are freely available in full-text online.

Health Source - Consumer Edition
This is an EBSCO allied health database that provides “information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Health Source: Consumer Edition provides access to nearly 80 full text consumer health magazines”.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
This EBSCO allied health database "provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines." It "also features abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals."

Essential Evidence Plus
A database system of filtered, synchronized, evidence-based information, InfoRetriever® searches a full spectrum of evidence-based content and tools. It includes InfoPoems (daily summaries of new research) Griffith’s Five-Minute Clinical Consult, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Practice Guidelines and others.

MICROMEDEX Healthcare Series
This Thomson Healthcare database includes a "wide range of clinical databases, including unbiased, referenced information about drugs, toxicology, diseases, acute care, and alternative medicine."

Pre-CINAHL
This is an EBSCO allied health index companion to CINAHL.

ProQuest
This is primarily an education and psychology database. ProQuest Education Journals provide “access to over 760 top educational publications, includingmore than600 of the titles in full text.” ProQuest Psychology Journals “provides abstracts and indexing for more than640 titles, with over540 titles available in full text. Users get access to charts, diagrams, graphs, tables, photos, and other graphical elements essential to psychological research.”

PubMed
This biomedical database is freely available for anyone to use anywhere and includes 17 million citations that date back to the 1950s.

netLibrary
This general database provides access to18,000+ full-text electronic books. To print a page, right-click on it and choose print.

PubMed Radiography LinkOuts
This imaging database is a subset of the PubMed database, which is the largest medical database in the world. It includes abstracts for most radiography journals that South College owns in print or has full-text access to online. It does NOT include abstracts to radiography magazines such as Radiology Today, RT Image, Decisions in Imaging Economics, and Radiographics.

Regional Business News
This is an EBSCO business database which “provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications…75 business journals, newspapers, and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States”.

STAT!Ref
The STAT!Ref database is a full-text resource that enables users to cross search multiple evidence based medical resources at once. This database includes 5-Minute Clinical Consult, DSM-IV-TR, Merck Manual of Diagnosis and the Oxford Textbook of Medicine among others.

Teacher Reference Center
This EBSCO education index includes citations from "over 260 titles from the most popular teacher and administrator trade journals, periodicals, and books" and is freely available for anyone to use anywhere with an Internet connection.

Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) databases
Tennessee Electronic Library is a diverse collection of twenty-one databases and indexes for use by Tennessee residents. These resources may be searched anywhere in Tennessee that has an Internet connection.

UpToDate
This is a comprehensive evidence-based clinical information resource available to clinicians. Written exclusively for UpToDate by more than 3,600 clinician authors, content is comprehensive and fully referenced. Also includes Lexi-Interact ™ drug interactions program.

Westlaw
This is a legal database that is only available to Legal Studies students.
