Don Yager

DHSc, PA-C, MT(ASCP)

Dr. Don Yager is the Director of Clinical Services for the School of Physician Assistant Studies at South College in Knoxville, Tennessee. He received his Doctor of Health Science degree from Nova Southeastern University and is a graduate of the Alderson-Broaddus College Physician Assistant Program. He has also been awarded a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies with an emphasis in Emergency Medicine from The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine, a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Old Dominion University, and an Associate in Science in Medical Laboratory Technique from The George Washington University. He has over 12 years experience as a Physician Assistant, practicing emergency medicine since 1996 in both level 1 and level 2 designated emergency departments. Prior to his emergency medicine experience, he practiced in rural family medicine and participated in migrant health and has previously been a volunteer with Child and Family Services. He has approximately 15 years experience in the medical laboratory and has previously been employed as a Medical Technologist (ASCP) at several major hospitals and with the American Red Cross.

Dr.Yager served more than eight years active duty as a U.S. Navy Corpsman. During this time he completed both basic and advanced medical laboratory technician “C” schools. While serving on board ship he performed duties as a pharmacy, radiological and laboratory technician. He completed training and became licensed as a nationally registered emergency medical technician. He has served approximately 12 years in the U.S. Naval Reserves and is currently a Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Service Corps assigned as the medical and administrative officer.

Dr. Yager has lectured on topics related to domestic violence and child abuse, childhood obesity, emergency medicine, and medical laboratory science. He is a fellow member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Naval Academy of Physician Assistants, Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants, and Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and is currently board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Tennessee.
