The South College Professional Brewing Science Program will be one of 18 different sponsors of this year's "Hops for Hope" fundraising event. The event, scheduled for May 2nd at the The Lily Barn in Maryville, is held to raise money for the New Hope-Blount County Advocacy Center. The non-profit center is a child-friendly safe place for child victims of sexual and physical abuse in Blount County and the surrounding area.
The event will consist of a sampling of food and handcrafted beers provided by a select group of regional breweries. At 5:00pm, a special VIP tasting with Jeremy Walker of Eagle Distributing will take place. The tasting will consist of three Bourbon County beers which is a first for East Tennessee.
Seating for the VIP event is limited to 25 people. More than 350 are expected to attend the fundraiser. Tickets are $60 per person and can be purchased by calling 981-2000.
"Hops for Hope" is the second regional beer festival and fundraiser to be sponsored by the South College Professional Brewing Science program. In February, the program was the main sponsor of the third annual Tennessee Winter Beer Fest. $8,000 was raised in that event for the New Hope advocacy center.
South College's West campus Auditorium will be the site of a town hall meeting on Thursday, April 17th, to discuss the problem of bullying.
