A reception celebrating the release of the new issue of Expressions will be held on Wednesday, August 31st, from 5:00-6:00pm in the Main Campus Student Center. Expressions is the South College student literary magazine.

The issue is dedicated to the memory of student John Astillero, one of the student contributors to be honored at the reception. Other contributors include Jennifer Chesney, Regina Collins, William D. Cook, James Crawford, Tara Fleury, Staci L. Garner, Heather Harris, Chrissandra Measley, Tamara S. Meyers, and Stephanie (Stacy) Taylor. All South College students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend.

Donations to Ladies of Charity Appreciated

The South College Student Advisory Committee, (SAC), and the Student Services staff had a very successful food and clothing drive during the Spring quarter.

Four flat beds of "gently used" clothing, one flat bed of food items, and donations totaling $225 were "trucked" to the Ladies of Charity organization. The items donated will be used by the organization in its efforts to assist the needy of our community.

Business School Faculty Lend Expertise in "BizTown"

Recently, School of Business Administration faculty spent a day volunteering at BizTown in Clinton, Tennessee. 112 fifth-grade students from North Middle School in Loudon County were assisted by faculty members Jim Hollingsworth, Dr. Kristina Kushnir, Bill Bergquist, Sharon Moore, Dick Grover, and Business School Dean Chip Bailey. BizTown is a simulated town created at the Hollingsworth Entrepreneurial Center of Junior Achievement were students work in assigned businesses and learn the basics of commerce and the economics system.

Through the program, students work, earn and spend money, make bank deposits and maintain a check book in order to gain a better understanding of financial literacy and how important education is in preparing them for their future work life.

Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to educating students in grades K-12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.
