Born in Sacramento, California, Dr. Kanya Godde joined South College as an adjunct in 2009. Dr. Godde earned both her B.A. (2002) and M.A. (2004) in Anthropology from California State University, Sacramento. She completed her PhD in Anthropology (with a concentration on bioarchaeology and forensics) at University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2009.
While working on her academic degrees, Dr. Godde taught and trained employees in the financial industry for eight years. For the five years prior to completing her PhD, Dr. Godde held several teaching positions in Anthropology and Biology. Aside from the traditional classes offered at universities, Dr. Godde has also taught labs in a series of short courses offered through the Forensic Anthropology Center at University of Tennessee. This unique set of classes specializes in training law enforcement and anthropologists from around the world in crime scene recovery and skeletal analysis. Moreover, Dr. Godde has also held positions at the Forensic Anthropology Center and the Knox County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Dr. Kanya Godde maintains active memberships in American Association of Physical Anthropologists, American Association of Forensic Sciences, and American Association of Anthropological Genetics. Dr. Godde attends and presents her research at the annual meetings for the aforementioned associations. She has published several articles in international and domestic journals and is currently working on a book chapter and several important projects that will result in further publications
