Dr. Karen Goss

Dr. Karen Goss was named Science Department Chair at South College September 2006. Prior to this, Dr. Goss served as the Director of Anatomy and Physiology Department at South College. Dr. Goss, graduated from the Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy, and completed her Master of Science in Anatomy at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. She earned her doctorate in Comparative and Experimental Medicine from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1996.

Dr. Gosse has held several positions in education and research since 1993. She served as Assistant Professor and Acting Chair, Exercise and Sports Science Department, at Tennessee Wesleyan College August 2003-2004, Prior to that Dr. Goss was at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville as Director, of the Behavior Laboratory, Tennessee Mouse Genome Consortium (TMGC).from January, 2000 until June, 2003. Concurrently she served as an Adjunct Professor, in the Department of Exercise Science and Sport Management UT Knoxville.Dr. Goss also worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory as the Principal Investigator, in the Behavior Laboratory. 1997-2002. Dr. Goss was a Consultant, in the Department of Physical Therapy East Tennessee State University from 1996-1998, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Therapy, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga 1993–1995 and Director of Physical Therapy Services. 1990-1993 at the University of Tennessee Developmental and Genetic Center.

Before moving to Tennessee Dr. Goss held various Physical Therapy Positions at the Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, Franklin County, Ohio, Ohio State University Department of Anatomy, Columbus, Ohio, Tri Village Sports Physical Therapy, Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Goss is an active member of the Community and is affiliated with several Out Reach Programs: Cuddler for the NICU program at University of Tennessee Medical Center, Board Member March of Dimes, Read with Me Program for Knox County students, Sponsor for Special Olympics, Health Clinic Volunteer, Mission of Hope.

Dr. Karen Goss brings in 20 years of practice, teaching, and research in the field of physical therapy, 10 years of university level teaching at the graduate level in exercise science and physiology, 10 years of university level teaching and establishment of certification programs in exercise science, physical therapy, and allied health, 8 years of teaching Anatomy and Physiology and Pathophysiology courses at the undergraduate level, extensive research in motor learning and control. Dr. Goss has numerous scientific and professional presentations and several publications to her credit.
