Faculty, General Chemistry I & II, Organic I & II
Dr. Shiv Dhar has been a faculty for General Chemistry I & II, Organic I and II at South College, since August 2004. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry, and earned his Ph.D. with a specialization in Solid Rocket Propulsion from Pune University, India. Dr. Dhar’s career as a scientist and senior project manager at the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), in India, focused on rocket propulsion combustion mechanism and the research, development and application of high energy materials to gun and rocket propellants. He brings in a total of 18 years of strong analytical, creative thinking, training, mentoring, managerial and research experience in basic and applied science and technology, to the classroom.
Dr. Dhar is a member of several committees at South College and was presented with the Distinguished Teaching Award for 2006. Among his other awards are a Junior Research Fellowship Award from the Government of India to conduct research on electrochemical synthesis and a commendation certificate from the Government of India, Defense R&D Organization, for his significant contributions to the Integrated Guided Missiles Development Program. In addition to having been a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Dr. Dhar presently holds membership in the National Science Teachers Association, American Chemical Society and life membership of the High Energy Materials Society of India.
