Ms. Amanda Peretich

Adjunct Faculty, General Chemistry I

Amanda L. Peretich received her Bachelor of Science degree at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA in 2005 with a double major in chemistry and biology. She completed her Master of Science degree in Comparative and Experimental Medicine at the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2008. She has worked both as a laboratory researcher and an instructor throughout her time in Virginia and Tennessee. She served as an undergraduate student teaching assistant and science tutor at James Madison University and then worked as the chemistry department laboratory coordinator while teaching general chemistry labs. Amanda also served as a substitute teacher for Harrisonburg City Public Schools, working mainly at the high school level.

Ms. Peretich has a long background in research experience. She has worked in both a biochemistry and an organometallic chemistry lab at James Madison University, along with a reproductive physiology lab studying the Thailand fishing cat at the Smithsonian Institute National Zoological Park’s Conservation and Research Center and the Large Animal Clinical Sciences lab studying diabetes and obesity at the University of Tennessee. She has also presented the results of her research at numerous meetings and conferences, including the Keystone Symposium on Molecular Control of Adipogenesis and Obesity, the Experimental Biology national meeting, American Chemical Society national meetings, the annual Academy of Science meeting, and National Science Foundation REU symposia.

Amanda is also affiliated with multiple national organizations, including the professional chemistry fraternity Alpha Chi Sigma, the national biological honor society Beta Beta Beta, the national honor society for women in chemistry Iota Sigma Pi, and the American Chemical Society.
