You have your job interview set up, and you’ve done the prep – even laid out the perfect outfit. In order to make a lasting impression, you want to think ahead. What else should you do? Here are six things to do right before your interview.
1) Print your resume.
You may have sent in your resume electronically during the application process, but it’s still important to bring a copy or two with you to your interview. That way, if the interviewer doesn’t have a copy ready, you are able to provide them with one and make their job easier.
2) Arrive early but don’t go inside.
Definitely take any steps you need to in order to make sure that you have ample time before your interview. The office may be difficult to locate or parking could take longer than expected, so you should always arrive early. However, you don’t necessarily have to go inside super early. The earliest you should arrive for an interview is 10 minutes before the scheduled time. This shows that you are punctual and enthusiastic without putting pressure on the interviewers to stop what they are doing and attend to you before they have you on their schedule.
3) Be positive and move around.
Before your interview, be sure to put on a positive attitude and an enthusiastic mindset. Also be sure to move around and get your blood flowing, this will make you more alert and awake so that you can be on your toes for those tough interview questions.
4) Read your notes but don’t do additional research.
Just like for an exam, cramming is no good here. Do your research on the company and position beforehand. Make sure you remember key facts correctly and highlight things you want to reference in the interview. Now is not the time to do additional research, just keep in mind a few distinct thoughts.
5) Turn phone notifications/sounds off.
The last thing you want to be during your interview is distracted — and interrupt your potential future employer! Make sure your phone is on silent and any alarms or other notifications are turned off before you walk in.
6) Take a deep breath and walk through the door.
You are prepared and you are capable. Now take a deep breath and go on in. This is your opportunity to show off all you have learned and highlight the skills you want to utilize for this company.
